Companies are being judged more and more by how much health and wellbeing support they offer their employees. Candidates looking for jobs will actually seek out information on what a company can offer them – it is the ‘whole package’ that matters, not just the salary.
The 2017-2018 Global benefits attitudes survey, published by global risk management, found that 33% of UK employees believe their employers should pay them for keeping healthy. Gym memberships, healthier food options and mental health support is sited at some of the top things that people look for when searching for a job.
So when it comes to giving a little more to your employees, what can you do that won’t break the bank, but will show your employees you value them? One option could be a fruit basket. Fruitful Office (a company that delivers fresh fruit to employees in offices around London and Dublin) found that 79% of staff in a survey said the introduction of a fruit basket delivered weekly to their office premises made them feel more valued as an employee. Not only this, but they also found that 81% of staff thought having fresh fruit available at their desk had “improved their quality of life at work.” What’s great about a fruit basket is that it is an affordable option for most companies across the UK, but it gives such a lot of benefits so it can be easily justified in your budget. Just some of the other benefits include:
Healthier staff: 70% of staff started eating more fruit in Fruitful Office’s survey, when fruit was introduced to the office staff room. This means those staff that may have ordinarily reached for a packet of crisps will be eating something much healthier, boosting their immune system (and perhaps even reducing the amount of sick days they take!)
Improved corporate image and reputation: People want to see that a company cares and providing well for your staff will have a good effect on your brand – staff will tell friends and family how great you are to work for, and the word will soon get around that you invest in your people. This is positive promotion for your brand, however big or small your company is!
