Work is stressful. Even if you love your job it can still be incredibly hard after a long and busy shift or if something has really bothered you at work to relax and unwind at home. If you’re finding it hard to come home from work and really be “home”, i.e. not thinking about work or still worrying about something that happened that is out of your control, then here are some tips to switch off and have some time for yourself.
Is it Ever Going to Happen?
A lot of stress is made up in our heads. We think about something and turn it into every bad thing that could possibly happen until it seems impossible to ever overcome it. If something has happened at work, can you control it? If the answer is no, you need to try and deal with it and move on. Unfortunately, bad things happen in life and sometimes we must accept it; worrying over something we cannot control will only damage our mental health. Think about what you can do if the situation can be controlled and what you can do about it. Take it one step at a time and don’t imagine things that haven’t happened! Sometimes it can be hard to think positively about a situation, but imagining the worst scenarios will help nobody!
Plan
If you’re stressing over how much you have to do and are worried about forgetting something, maybe it is worth taking out twenty minutes of your day at work or after to get your thoughts in order. Write down everything that is going on in your head and then you don’t have to worry about forgetting anything. Sometimes, drafting our thoughts onto paper can help us stop worrying about them, as we know they are there to come back to. Organize what you are going to do and when. Having a plan will decrease stress and give you a more positive outlook. When you cross those jobs off your list, you will feel better too!
Find What Works for You
We are all different and enjoy different things. When we come home, we need something to distract our minds and some time doing something we enjoy. If you like to sit back and catch up on your favorite shows on your TV, check out indreviews for the latest in HDTV antennas to watch your favorite shows in the best quality. If you love reading, lose yourself in a good book. Exercise is a great way to distract yourself, keep fit and release those good endorphins to destress after work. You need to fully commit to what you are doing. Don’t sit down in front of your TV then start texting about your day to your friends or colleagues. To really switch off, our minds need to be 100% focused on the task at hand. You are constantly communicating at your job, so put the phone down, you work long hours and need time to celebrate, relax, or keep your mind off work!
This can be hard to remember but sometimes, but we work to live, not live to work! Now find what you love and switch off for a while, you’ll thank me later!
