Beginner Photo Editing Tips: How to Touch up Your Pics

How many times have you opened social media, looked at a picture, and your jaw immediately dropped? If it’s too many times to count, then you might feel like you’ll never get your skills up as good as these pro influencers.

But the truth is, with a little practice and knowledge, you can get your photos looking just as amazing. Most modern photo editing software is easy to use and accessible, which means you don’t need to be a professional photographer to get stunning images.

Where should you start though? Keep reading for some beginner photo editing tips you should try!

Play With the Brightness and Contrast

Brightness and contrast are the 2 most important things for photography. You’d be surprised at how much different it’d make to make some small tweaks!

What’s great is that these 2 things usually have a slider. So you can slide them up and down until you find the perfect combination. The ideal setting is where you can see everything clearly without any details being too dark or light.

Get Rid of Distracting Backgrounds

A cluttered and busy background can take a photo from excellent to “meh” fast. Piles of papers and books, or even large crowds of people can detract from your subject at hand.

Luckily, it’s easy to get rid of distracting backgrounds. While you can use the lasso tool in photo editing software and erase the background from there, you can also remove background from an image by using a dedicated tool. Simply upload your photo and it’ll automatically remove the background for you!

Another way you can clear up your pictures is to crop them. This gives your images a tighter focus, which can also make a deeper impact on the viewer.

Use Preset Filters

For quick photo editing that’s simple and easy, check out the preset filters. If you’re on Instagram, then you’re probably already familiar with them, but pretty much all photo editors have these.

Click through each filter to see which correct your images best. Some will brighten your photos, while others will dark them, and some will give your photos a warm hue while others will give them a colder hue.

Preset filters can work out in a pinch, so don’t be afraid to use them. But if you want to get better at photo editing, it’s best to do so manually!

Use These Photo Editing Tips to Create Great Images

Now you’ve got some basic photo editing tips under your belt. Test them out on your next pictures and you’ll see a world of difference!

Once you feel comfortable with these simple features, then you can start exploring more of your editing software. And you’ll be an expert editor in no time flat!
